Lesson Plan

Objective: To enhance Team Work in Trainees

Total Time: 90 Minutes

Material required:

chartpepers, newspapers, staplers, tap, scissors, thermocol sheets and open space

Instructor Note: 

This session will give participants opportunities to practise teamwork and an open space to reflect on advantages and disadvantages of teamwork. In the previous modules, participants have already worked in teams but this session should mold their experience in a more structured and learned way of working in teams for a common goal

Opening Protocol:

  • Greet the participants

  • Take attendance

  • In pairs, ask participants to share with each other how they are feeling

  • Recap the previous session by asking 1-2 participants to share with the class, what they learnt and did in the previous session

5 Minutes

Concept discussion:

  • Write the word “Team and Teamwork” on the board

  • Ask, “Can anyone define the word or provide examples of empathy”

  • Take 2-3 responses

  • Ask everyone to open their handbooks

  • Ask one volunteer to come infront and read the story “The Football Game”

  • After the student has read the story, ask them to share their views on the story. 

10 minutes

Activity: Teamwork

  • Divide trainees into two groups and give them chart papers, newspapers, sketch pens, thermocol sheets, staplers etc. 

  • Ask them to create a model of a house using all the resources they have got

  • Give them 30 minutes to plan and create the model

  • When teams are creating the model, trainer will observe them on the following skills:-

  • Effective communication

  • Teamwork Agreement

  • Project management

  • Conflict management

  • After 30 minutes a client will come to see the model and both the teams have to sell their model to the client. Trainer will become the client. It will be great to invite external guests as well (other trainers, college principal, model officer etc)

  • After the activity and the presentation of the model, the trainer will ask groups to evaluate the performance of their own team. Did their team work according to what they discussed in the introduction of the topic? The trainer will also give his/her observations and suggestions.

50 Minutes

Concept discussion: Advantages and disadvantages

  • Ask students to open their handbooks and go to the activity “Teamwork-advantages and disadvantages”

  • Give them 5-7 minutes to fill the table based on their experience

  • After they have made notes, take responses and discuss how despite of some challenges, teamwork can help in resourcefulness, support, division of work and achieving more 

20 Minutes

Closing Protocol: 

  • Thank the participants for their time

  • Announce the next time you will be visiting them

  • Share the topic of the next session

  • Collect 1-2 most interesting activity sheets/artefacts from students and show to Nodal officer and institution head after session

  • Click pictures of the artefacts for documentation
