Orientation

Lesson Plan
Objective:  Participants will be able to familiarise themselves with the programme, trainer and their co-participants.
Total Time: 90 Minutes
Material Required: 5 chart papers, 5 sketchpens
Instructor Note:  Before we start delivering the programme, it’s important to be clear with “why we are doing this”. It helps create better relevance. Use this first session to build your rapport and programme’s importance. Let students get comfortable with each other, with you, with the programme, with timetable, classroom and classroom culture.
Opening Protocol:
  • Greet the participants
  • Take attendance
  • Ask participants to share with each other how they are feeling
  • Tell them that this will be the opening protocol for each day
5 Minutes
Activity 1: Ask me anything
  • Ask students to have one question ready for him/her which will help them know the trainer better
  • Spend 15 minutes answering as many questions as possible.
15 Minutes
Activity 2: Two truths and a lie
  • Write the name of the activity on the board and tell students that they will have to guess the lie from the 3 things you are going to tell them about yourself.
  • Tell the learners that this activity will help them know their fellow learners better.
  • Take 3 responses and disclose the lie
  • Ask students to come in front one by one and tell 3 things (two truths and a lie) and other students will guess the lie. If it’s not possible to give time to all the students then randomly get some students to come in front.
30 Minutes

Activity 3: About the programme
  • The trainer will share the timetable, number of classes students need to attend, timings, venue etc and the objective of running the programme.
  • Trainer can feel free to use the board, projector etc to make it easy to explain.
  • Encourage students to ask questions if they have any concerns in mind
10 Minutes
Activity 4: Classroom Culture
  • Divide students in 5 groups
  • Ask each group to discuss their expectations from this programme and from themselves
  • Then ask each group to write 5 rules that they want all their batch mates to follow during the course of the programme to make the learning environment more comfortable, respectable and learning oriented
  • Each group will come in front one by one to share the five rules they had decided
  • Trainer will finalise 5 rules that the groups have in common
  • Ask all the groups to write one rule each on a beautiful chart paper. Thus, have 5 rules written on 5 chart papers by 5 groups and paste them on the classroom wall.
20 Minutes
Closing/Debrief: Encourage students to follow these rules throughout the programme to make the classroom culture positive, inclusive, interesting and encouraging. 5 Minutes
Closing Protocol:
