Using technology for Job Search- Naukri

Lesson Plan

Objective: 

Participants will be able to set up their own profile, locate jobs, and monitor job applications  on job portal(s)

Total Time: 90 Minutes

Materials Required:  White board, , Marker, Projector, PowerPoint Presentation, Computer lab/ smartphones with Internet Connection

Instructor Note: 

“Don’t give them a fish, teach them how to fish”, following this quote, it’s important to make our participants self-reliant for both continuous learning and finding right opportunities. Naukri is the most widely used job search platform in India. Participants will learn using this platform by actually using it in the class

Opening Protocol:

  • Greet the participants

  • Take attendance

  • In pairs, ask participants to share with each other how they are feeling

  • Recap the previous session by asking 1-2 participants to share with the class, what they learnt and did in the previous session

5 Minutes

Opening Activity:

Ask participants, “what are the various ways to search for a Job?

Answers will include following options:- (write down their points on white board)

  • Walk in Interviews

  • Campus placement

  • Newspaper

  • Referrals 

  • Company website (career option or work with us)

  • Job Portals

Tell the learners that in today’s session they will learn about Job Portals which will help them get in touch with potential employers and know more about the status of the job market.

5 Minutes

Concept discussion:

  • Ask participants to open their handbooks and read the concepts given in the Job search lesson. Give them 5 minutes to discuss and help each other understand the concepts. 

  • After 5 minutes ask at least 3 participants to answer the following:-

  • what are job portals

  • why use job portals

  • benefits of using job portals etc.

  • Then ask participants to use computers to check the interface of some job portals

Activity 1:  Creating profile on Naukri

Part 1: Preparation to create a profile

  • Ask participants to open their handbooks and go to the activity “Creating profile on Naukri”

  • Quickly explain the parts of the form and ask them to fill the form individually within 10 minutes.

  • Go around the class and help students if they need at a particular part of the form 

  • Ask them to stop writing after 10 minutes and tell them that having this information will help them in the next segment when they will actually making a profile on Naukri

15 Minutes

Part 2: Profile Creation on Naukri.com

  • Divide the class in pairs and ask them to assist each other in creating profiles

  • Using projector, demonstrate account and profile creation process on Naukri

  • Now ask students to refer to the form that they have filled above to fill in the data on Naukri

  • Assist students wherever required

  • If there is any part of profile that they can’t complete at the moment(as they do not have the information), tell them to complete it after the session

  • Ask pairs to ensure that their partners have created their profiles in 15 minutes

15 Minutes

Part 3: Profile check

  • Ask students to change their partners

  • Now new partners will check each others profile using the following criteria

  • Is the information complete

  • Is the information well articulated 

  • What are the areas where the person can make the information look more attractive

  • Ask students to make real time changes based on the feedback they are receiving

10 Minutes

Activity 2: Job search

  • Divide students in two groups and ask group 1 to understand the steps for searching jobs using desktop, and group 2 to read steps for searching jobs using mobile phones. Give them 5 minutes to reach the steps from handbook

  • After 5 minutes quickly ask each group to tell the steps

  • Now ask everyone to practice searching jobs using keywords

15 Minutes

Closing:

  • Use these 5 minutes to answer students questions, if any

  • Or ask them some questions to check for their understanding

  • Encourage them to create their profiles on other job portals as well

Closing Protocol:

  • Thank the participants for their time

  • Announce the next time you will be visiting them

  • Share the topic of the next session

  • Collect 1-2 most interesting activity sheets/artefacts from students and show to Nodal officer and institution head after session

  •  Click pictures of the artefacts for documentation
