Lesson Plan: 90 Minutes

Objective:

Participants will be able to understand and apply best practices for presenting themselves confidently in front of others

Total Time: 90 Minutes

Materials Required: NA

Instructor Note:

Help them realize the value of professionalism at the workplace which if not present may result in cultural misalignment. Tell them that the points discussed need to be kept in mind to project a professional and positive image. They can also add more points to the lists.

Opening Protocol:

  • Greet the participants

  • Take attendance

  • In pairs, ask participants to share with each other how they are feeling

  • Recap the previous session by asking 1-2 participants to share with the class what they learnt and did in the previous session.

5 Minutes

Opening Activity:

  • Ask 2 male participants and 2 female participants to volunteer for an activity and take them out of the room

  • Divide 4 of them in two groups. Each group should have 1 male and 1 female

  • Let group 1 present the groomed image and group 1 to present an untidy image. To do this, the trainer can quickly check all the 4 participants from head to toe. They can quickly make some changes in their clothes, shoes, hair, skin and overall image.

  • Let all the 4 participants come inside and make all the other participants answer these questions-

  • if you have to select one of these 4 participants, who would you select and why, assuming that you are meeting them first time

  • based on responses, ask how did they select the person and why

  • Get them to a point where they understand the importance of appearance

15 Minutes

Activity 1: Ad Mad Show

  • Divide the class in 4 groups

  • Tell groups that they have to create an advertisement for maximum 2 minutes where you will show the benefits of your product/service brand.

  • Give 15 minutes for planning and practice and 2 minutes each for performing the ad

  • End the activity by telling participants that it’s not the products or brands that we need to focus on, but the need for using a product or service like this is what matters. Make them realise that untidy appearance impacts their self confidence and it also forms an unpleasant image in front of others

  • Assign these products/ services to groups:-

  • Toothpaste and mouth freshner

  • Beauty brand for face wash and moisturiser

  • Formal clothing brand

  • Salon brand

30 Minutes

Activity 2: Quiz

  • After introducing students to grooming and etiquette, tell them that they will be having a small quiz to know their understanding

  • Ask students to solve the quiz in their handout.

  • Once all students are done, tell them to exchange quiz answers with the neighbouring student.

  • Reveal the answers and tell students to mark accordingly.

  • Discuss the answers given by students and make them aware of grooming tips and etiquette

Answers: 1-d, 2-c,3-b, 4-b, 5-a&b, 6-a, 7-b, 8-d, 9-b

Give 10 minutes for answering and checking the answers and utilize another 10 minutes for discussion.

15 minutes

Activity 3: Checklist for image building

  • Tell the students they will be filling a checklist. (Refer Handout)

  • Students will have to write the basic things they will follow in their life when it comes to Personal Hygiene, Professional grooming and General Etiquette

  • Motivate students to write as many points as they can.

  • Help them if they are out of points with some real life examples.

  • Discuss a few checklists in class and inform students to follow them in real life.

15 Minutes

Closing/Debrief: Summarize the entire session and make students realize the importance of grooming and its impact.

Ask them to commit towards proper grooming in their life ahead.

5 Minutes

Closing Protocol:

  • Thank the participants for their time

  • Announce the next time you will be visiting them

  • Share the topic of the next session

  • Collect 1-2 most interesting activity sheets/artefacts from students and show to Nodal officer and institution head after session

  • Click pictures of the artefacts for documentation
