Participants will be able to create new ideas and connect those ideas to problem solving and innovation

Total Time: 90 Minutes

Materials Required: 5 Chart Papers

Instructor Note:

After understanding the basics of entrepreneurship, participants will now start giving a formal shape to their wild ideas. This session will focus on refining their ideas.

Opening Protocol:

  • Greet the participants

  • Take attendance

  • In pairs, ask participants to share with each other how they are feeling

  • Recap the previous session by asking 1-2 participants to share with the class, what they learnt and did in the previous session

5 Minutes

Opening Activity: 100 Uses

  • Set the Agenda “Today we will have some fun by unleashing our creativity”

  • Divide learners in 5 groups

  • Let each group use 1 chart paper

  • Each group will be assigned an object and together the group has to come up with 100 unconventional uses of the object.

  • Some objects that can be assigned are: Ball, Feather, Hanger, Pencil, Paper Clip, Safety Pin, Bulb, Cap

  • For example, if the object is a safety pin, then apart from it being used to pin something, think of some other uses of it. Maybe an earring/necklace can be made from many safety pins?

After 10 minutes, end the activity by telling them that no idea is a bad idea and how easy it can be to come up with ideas if we just change our perspective slightly.

10 Minutes

Concept discussion:

  • Divide the class in three groups and ask them to open their hanbooks

  • Give 10 minutes to each group to read and understand the following topics:-

  • Sources of ideas

  • Creativity techniques

  • Problem identification

  • After 10 minutes, randomly ask group members to share their learnings

  • Involve everyone in the discussion to ensure that all the participants understand all the concepts

  • Now spend 10 minutes discussing some ideas that became the foundation of some really interesting businesses like Zomato.

25 Minutes

Activity 1: Practicing creativity techniques

  • Divide the class in groups of 5

  • Tell them that they have to consider themselves as product development teams

  • Tell them, “your task is to develop a solution (product/service) that improves the experience of using any object such as an umbrella, bottle, wallet etc. Follow these steps to do the task. Example- you have picked bag as an object that you want to improve”

Step 0: Understand the Opportunity

  • Each team member will conduct each other’s interviews

  • Some questions that you can ask during interviewing are “What do you like/dislike about your bag? Where do you carry your backpack? How do you store things in it? How often do you buy a new one? What is the most annoying thing that has happened when you were using your bag?

  • After the interviews, write down  the “user needs” that  you  identified

Step 1: Create the right starting point

  • Synthesize  group  discoveries  and  select  one user need, and articulate a problem statement

Step 2: Brainstorm individually and then in groups

  • Generate as many ideas as possible and write them down

Step 3: Categorize them from most crazy ones to most realistic ones

Step 4: Share the best idea that you and your team like

Put all the business ideas submitted/shared by learners and write them on a blackboard – Ask learners to vote for the top 2 ideas. Tell them that they have used “brainstorming” as a creativity technique

  •  Ask groups to open their handbook and go the activity “SCAMPER”

  •  Give them 10 minutes to apply SCAMPER technique on Zomato

  •  Take few responses to check that students are using the technique well

25 Minutes

Project time:

  • Ask participants to sit with their groups as they are going to use 15 minutes to work on their business plan project

  • Ask them to take a stock of all the ideas they had come up with yesterday and define them now

  • Tell them to frame the problem statement and the business idea

15 Minutes

  • Ask any one group to come in front and share their problem statement and business idea in front of everyone

  • Trainer can use this group’s idea as an example to share feedback and suggestions to guide participants

5 Minutes

Closing Protocol:

  • Thank the participants for their time

  • Announce the next time you will be visiting them

  • Share the topic of the next session

  • Collect 1-2 most interesting activity sheets/artefacts from students and show to Nodal officer and institution head after session

  • Click pictures of the artefacts for documentation
